FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

Yes — completely. The web app runs 100% client-side in your browser and the desktop app runs locally; your reports are parsed on your own machine. Your reports and trading data never touch a server, and you never log into a trading account to analyze. The only optional exception is anonymous usage statistics — off by default — that you can turn on to help improve the app; they never include your reports, trades, or any numbers.

Yes. Stratlyze is built specifically and deeply around MetaTrader 5 backtest exports — their exact UTF-16 encoding, number formatting, German/English labels and trade structure. That focus is what lets us reconstruct the true equity precisely instead of approximating across many platforms.

QuantAnalyzer's equity curve is really the closed-trade balance — it can't reconstruct the open positions from the trade list, so it hides floating drawdowns and stagnation, and your results look better than they were. Stratlyze back-solves the open inventory and shows the true equity with floating P&L. On top of that we add the configurable rule-threshold check you set, a user-driven portfolio what-if (model your own per-EA lot factors on your own backtest — linear, in-sample) and correlation timing that QA doesn't have. Same analysis depth, plus the truth and the user-configurable rule-threshold layer.

The rule engine is configurable rather than tied to specific firms, so you can model most prop-firm-style rule sets: daily loss, max/trailing drawdown, consistency, minimum trading days, open-risk caps, margin, risk-per-trade, minimum hold time and weekend-holding. You set the thresholds and reset time (00:00 UTC / CET / 5 PM EST), and Stratlyze reports whether your own historical backtest would have stayed within them. The whole rule check is opt-in and off by default — switch it on only when you want it, so Stratlyze is just as useful as a plain backtest analyzer if you don’t.

Both run the same engine, so results are identical. The web app is the fastest way to try it — nothing to install, runs in your browser. The desktop app (Windows & macOS) is better for large tick datasets and offline work. Start on the web, move to desktop when you want.

It's validated against a known MT5 report to the cent: net profit, drawdowns and the back-solved open inventory all reproduce exactly. In high-precision mode our FX reconstruction matches real rates to within 0.05% and Sharpe reproduces to 3.94 against MT5's stated 3.92. Where a number genuinely can't be computed from a backtest export — like a foreign EA's trailing stop — we label it instead of faking it.

It answers a question about your own backtest: across reshuffled orderings of the trades you already have, how often does the max drawdown reach the threshold you configure? We reshuffle your real backtested trades thousands of times to build a max-drawdown distribution band and report how often that threshold is reached against your configured drawdown cap. It never invents trades that didn't happen and never fits a return model — it only surfaces the sequence risk inside the run you already have. Because it reshuffles ordering, it assumes trades are independent — so a real run where losses cluster can draw down deeper than the band suggests. Walk-forward, what-if scenarios and exhaustive optimization stay deliberately out of scope: we'd rather do the honest core deeply than add features that invite over-optimization.

Pro is $129 once — lifetime, with every future update included and no subscription. We're in beta right now, so the whole app is free to use; when paid plans go live it becomes Free + Pro, and beta accounts move to the Free tier (Pro isn't grandfathered). There's a free tier too: full single-strategy analysis plus portfolio diagnosis (you can see exactly which rule threshold a portfolio's backtest crosses). Pro adds the portfolio what-if (model your own per-EA lot factors on your backtest — linear, in-sample), exact/high-precision mode, set-file generation, unlimited strategies and portfolios, PDF export and the Monte Carlo depth. Payments run through a merchant of record, so VAT and invoicing are handled.

Load one MT5 report and see the true equity curve, a rule-threshold report against the limits you configure, and exactly where those thresholds bite. Free during the beta. No account, no upload.
